TESTING SERVICES
All samples collected by the Mold Detectives are analyzed by an independent certified microbial laboratory. We then interpret the results, put them in easy to understand language and provide you with both the laboratories findings and our report that outlines what we found during our inspection of your property. If it turns out that remediation is necessary we can provide you with a remediation protocol so you know what is and isn’t needed to bring your indoor air quality back to acceptable conditions. There are times when collecting samples is not needed but discovering the source and extent of the growth is.
When you call for an inspection most times we can be where you need us within 48 hours. The samples we collect are always sent to the laboratory the same day via overnight delivery. Results are usually available within two to three business days. When the results need to be known sooner we also offer next day service.

AIR TESTING
When no visible evidence of microbial growth is present air samples will show what’s in the air you’re breathing. When mold grows it produces spores that are released into the air in order to spread the growth to other viable surfaces. Since mold spores are microscopic in size their ability to spread by way of even the tiniest opening is truly incredible. When the conditions are right mold growing inside a wall or in a crawl space or attic will distribute spores to your indoor environment. When we conduct air sampling we will collect an outdoor baseline sample in order to determine what spores and what levels of those spores are normal for the area you live in. Interior samples will show what spores are in the air you’re breathing and in what concentrations. The square footage of your home or business and the layout will determine how many samples are needed for a proper evaluation.

DIRECT SAMPLING
When we find growth in your home we may take a direct sample of the growth to determine its variety. This can help in identifying the original source of the growth since different molds prefer different environments and conditions in order to flourish. Mold growing on a wall surface or on a floor joist in a crawl space will usually be tested with a tape lift or swab. These samples are then examined under a microscope by an independent laboratory and their species identified.

When the suspected microbial growth is on a surface that doesn’t allow for direct sampling, like insulation we will cut out a small sample for examination.
